Window AC is commonly referred to as a room air conditioner as it is designed to cool a single room rather than the whole house. It is one of the simplest forms of the air conditioning system which is mounted on windows or walls. Window AC Conditioner Parts and Functions
The whole assembling process of the window air conditioning system can be divided into two components, the indoor side component and the outdoor side component. The indoor and the outdoor components are separated from each other by an insulated partition which is enclosed inside the window AC assembly unit.
Cooling Coil: It is the area where the heat exchange happens between the refrigerant and the room air.
Fan Blower: It is used to discharge the cool air into the room.
Capillary Tube: It is used as an expansion device.
Operation Panel: It is used to control the speed of the fan blower and the temperature. Here, a thermostat is used to detect the return air temperature and to monitor the temperature of the coil.
Filter drier: This is used to remove the moisture from the refrigerant.
Drain pan: This is used to hold the water that condensate from the cooling coil which is then discharged out by gravity.
Details about Window AC Conditioner Working
•Once the room temperature reaches the set point of thermostat it turns on the window air conditioner. This draws the room air through the air inlet grille where the filter removes the dust particles.
•Immediately, the refrigerant is pumped through tubing which initiates the process of refrigeration. This refrigerant lowers the temperature by turning the liquid to gas. • Once the process continues, the blower pushes warm air across the coil as the refrigerant absorbs the heat and turns to vapor.
•The vapor is then travelled to the compressor that pressurizes and moves it through the condenser coil as the heat is expelled outside.
•After the process, the refrigerant moves through an expansion device that converts it to a low-pressure cool liquid which then reversed to the evaporator coil.
•The above cycle repeats to make the indoor area cooler.
